GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION
A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. A sign must identify a product as coming from a specific location in order to operate as a GI.
A geographical indicator right allows individuals who have the right to use the indication to restrict a third party from using it if their product does not meet the applicable standards. This label is regarded as a certification that indicates if the product was manufactured using traditional procedures and defines certain features that impart reputation based on geographic origins. This allows the popular product name to be secured from being taken by anyone other than allowed users. Despite the fact that the concept of geographical indicator has been present for centuries, the French were the first to design a formal system to identify and acknowledge particular products/foods that had unique features and were solely produced in or related with a specific location.
A geographical indication Tags are trade names or labels attached to specific products that represent a specific geographic location or nation of origin. The primary benefit of the GI tag is its uniqueness, which protects against third-party usage.
